DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: 

64.5 micrograms/kg every third day (or as determined by physician) subcutaneously into the buttocks, usually at night time.

Subcutaneous injections into the fat of the buttocks allows for a leaching effect that can provide a “24/7” slow release into the tissues.

1. Quickly open box and select one syringe. Return the rest back to the fridge. Then let the syringe rest till it is at room temperature before attempting injection, preferably in a cupboard or covered away from sunlight (if using during daytime).

2. NEVER pinch the fat to ensure a subcutaneous injection.

3. When inserting the needle, the angle of injection should be at 30 degrees or less. The effective insertion length is only a small fraction of the total 8mm length of the needle.

Note:   1. If a patient’s urine shows red or pink, Methyl-B12 shot was undoubtedly delivered too deep - into the muscle instead of the fat. If you can see a response in the patient within minutes or a couple of hours, instead of many hours to days, it also means the shot was delivered into the muscle.

            2. Alternatively, if after the injection you see a pink or red patch under the skin, it means the shot was injected at TOO shallow an angle and did not go into the fatty layer.

There is no harm done in injecting too deep or too shallow, but the effectiveness of that particular shot will be negligible. It does often take patients (or carers) a few tries to perfect the technique, so don’t worry if you don’t succeed at the first attempt. You can also call us if you have any queries.

PRESENTATION:

Each pre-filled syringe contains the exact dosage needed for the patient it is dispensed for. Syringes are individually packed in light-resistant tamper-proof containers.

The solution contained in the pre-filled syringe is crimson red in colour, and is totally clear. If solution contains any visible particles, or is cloudy, please contact Kingsway Compounding.

STORAGE:

Protect from light. Store in refrigerator (2-8 degrees Celsius) in original light-resistant containers. Methyl-B12 injections are extremely sensitive to light and should be administered as soon as possible after removal from container.

Expiry date is 6 months from date of compounding.
